As I sit on the eve of one of America’s favorite holidays, Halloween 2020 makes me got back in time. Growing up, planning your costume for the beautiful day was marvelous. Back in the day, Batman, Superman, and Spiderman ruled the night. For me, I want to get as much candy as possible. We waited patiently for the sun to go down. Then, it was on like donkey kong.
The neighborhood was decorated and prime for trick or treaters of all ages. The air is full of conversation and chaos. We love Halloween because we can be someone else and not be criticized. Some are determined to have the scariest costumes. Other, it was all about the candy. Did I mention the candy? How much could you get? What’s your favorite? Snickers, KitKat, Butterfinger Twix, or Reeses. I do not matter the more, the merrier. Halloween will and always be about the candy.
You don’t have to be a kid to love this day. It’s also about friends, family, and camaraderie. The gatherings for this holiday have been legendary. My childhood memories have carried me as I reflect. Remember when you could just let the kids go and not worry about if they would come back home safely? Yea, the neighborhood would make sure that the shenanigans were kept in check. And, respect was something that is we all valued no matter what the age. Lastly, Halloween was at night time, unlike the current climate.
Nevertheless, it is still a day that we mark on our calendar every year for a reason, and I think it’s pretty obvious. Getting away from our day to day lives is fun. We need a reboot to remind us of why we grind so hard in life. Halloween 2020 will happen and also bring a little joy in a year that has not been filled with many memorable moments.
